A Pinch Of Fresh Air

We need more dinner parties – both casual and a planned with fun. Now's the season to get the friend groups around the table

A Pinch Of Fresh Air

Normally I feel like the beginning weeks of summer fly on by, but these first few weeks of fall may be even quicker. Maybe that’s from squeezing in as much sunlight as we can or just by enjoying this cool, crisp fresh air weather while we have it. This past week has felt like one of the quickest yet, and we’re doing a rapid fire here to go through the week’s meals that last an impression.

With mostly leftovers carrying us through the week, we made it beyond hump day when we saw some wholesome fall festive moments as the turtles in Fitler Square were dressed up in some new sweaters.

Those may not be food related but worth the initial shout as a highlight of the week. The first real food highlights came thanks to a very talented friend Jack, who casually whipped up one of the best home cooked meals I’ve had in a long time:

  • Honeycrisp apple toast

  • Roasted beets and labneh with basil

  • Radishes and butter – one of the most unexpectedly great combinations, so simple yet so good

  • Pasta alla vodka – yep, the star of the show. Everyone had at least two servings with some taking a bit extra home in doggie bags

  • Salad action – always good for a fresh bite

  • Chocolate chip cookie skillet + Turkey Hill vanilla bean ice cream – this may not have been homemade but everyone enjoyed every bite of it, leaving just a tiny sliver after all said and done

Going into the weekend eating good to say the least. Friday rolled around and my eyes were set on carb loading – we’re at that period where I am going to be a little annoying about my recipes revolving around running. That said, I’d say that Butternut Squash and Brown Butter Pasta with Sage, based on this Serious Eats recipe, deserves a spot at any table. Fuel for my 18 miles is clearly just as good for anyone at any time based on the likes on the Instagram story.

18+ miles has been one hell of an adventure, and I love being able to run around this beautiful city during such an amazing season.

And an even better sight goes to the Birds, who I was able to join my friend Danny on Sunday afternoon and carry out the rest of the good vibes through Sunday.

Next week I’ll have a whole decked out list of fall recipes and I’m sure plenty of more carbs that I’ll love to load up on. We’re in the crunch time of fall – pun intended – and I’m loving every bit of it.
