A Pinch Of Marathon Week
And a look at all the goods that raised $450+ for Philabundance
A Pinch Of Marathon Week
With a little bit of some nervous pre-Marathon week energy, I certainly managed to pack in a whole week of plans. Prep for the Goods bake sale, trying a new sushi spot in the city and a big tailgate with friends before the Birds got a great win. Now that it is Marathon week, time to rest up, pack in the carbs and hopefully take it easy ahead of Sunday.
Kicking things off with a look at the bake sale to raise money for Philabundance. This second go-around for Baked Goods for Good raised $460! Thank you to everyone who got some Goods as well as those who added to the overall donation. I always love getting to share the Goods, and it feels special to donate to an organization that’s always providing meals to the community, especially now during a time when more people are unfortunately being impacted and needing support.
The Swedish cinnamon buns and the lemon-blueberry scones seem to be a crowd favorite always, and the reviews certainly proved that to still be true. Then as per usual, I had to mix in something seasonal and a new bake. That came in the form of Alison Roman’s Brown Butter Pumpkin cake from her book Sweet Enough.

After an early-week baking fail to test out the recipe — the middle just never baked through, even sinking after I took it out the first time — I redeemed myself with the second attempt later in the week that I brought into my office. Safe to say that it was enjoyed by the small Thursday crew that was in the office (and caused a stir for those who usually enjoy the Tuesday or Wednesday treats.)
Friday's bakes and prep went smoothly and the one Saturday morning bake of the cinnamon buns had the apartment smelling great for the pick-ups in Philly. Not even a crumb was left after all packed and picked up. Thank you again for the support!
Now Tasting: Uchi
Uchi just opened up a new location right here in Philly, and I got to enjoy a taste during their soft opening this week. Really cool experience sitting at the sushi counter and getting to try a good mix of their menu from the sushi, specials and, of course, dessert.
Every bite seemed to capture the “oh that’s the best bite” moment. The memorable ones go to the mackerel and the salmon belly for the sushi, the crispy halibut with a green tomato broth and warm banana cake for the dessert.

Tailgate Season
Safe to say that most of my meals at home this past week were thanks to the big soup, and I enjoyed every last bit. Officially declaring it Soup Season. Saturday post-long run bites (and leftovers) were thanks to a Bobbie from Capriotti’s, thanksgiving in a sandwich.

Sunday was a bit windy to say the least, but that didn’t hold back the good vibes had all around down in the lots thanks to the tailgate setup pros of my friends Jack and Mike.
Pictures were limited but boy was the setup filled with great eats: Sarcone’s tomato pie, Center City Pretzel Co pretzels, hoagies, and tacos with all the fixings.

Safe to say after all that, I am quite tired. So we shall be resting up all week long and not doing much at all ahead of Sunday’s long 26.2 miles. Lots of carbs incoming and hydration reminders. Taking the whole “it’s a marathon, not a sprint” metaphor literally. Here we go!
Enjoy your week 🤘

Walking through Marathon week. Here. We. Go.
