A Pinch Of The Limits

A long weekend in a favorite city full of music and good eats, starting with 14 miles ran throughout the city in the heat

A Pinch of The Limits

A trip down to Austin for a long weekend to visit some friends has its been own form of a marathon. What started as a trip to hang with friends for a weekend and explore the city turned into two days at Austin City Limits and an all-time-high step count. Safe to say the limit of fun and good times has not existed.

The sweat for the weekend started bright and early Friday morning to keep up with training. A quick 2+ hour run around Lady Bird Lake set the pace for the weekend. The heat here is no joke that’s for sure. Maybe running before the rest of the weekends antics is a sign of maturing? The drinks and barbecue was certainly earned to kick things off.

The post-run meal of a nice breakfast hash and waffle with a beer was the perfect fuel for the one planned day of Austin City Limits. Walking over to the festival later in the afternoon was a bit of a slower gear, but we got to see Role Model, Cage the Elephant and the big headliner of Luke Combs – incredible way to end the festival night.

Saturday afternoon spent out on the lake has me red. Maybe that’s me showing some Phillies support for Red October. Not a great Philly sports weekend. Here’s to hoping the Phils (and Eagles) can pull things back starting tonight and as I make it back up to the homeland soon. (Ideally writing this email ahead of time will bring good luck for a win by the time folks are reading this.)

A spontaneous day-of ticket purchase brought us back to the music festival for an extra serving of great music: Rainbow Kitten Surprise, Disco Lines, T-Pain, John Summit and catching the end of The Killers for some hits.

And of course there was the obligatory barbecue stop down to Terry Black’s, where my eyes were far bigger than my stomach, though I got to eat good and plenty of the fixings: brisket, pork ribs, sausage, creamed corn, green beans, mac and cheese and corn bread. For those interested in the smoked meats method, allegedly here’s their style for brisket.

Texas barbecue is special. This city is special. And I can’t wait to get back again soon.

The week ahead will be back to eating some healthier bowls and salads, hopefully some Philly sports wins and just as much time outside as I spent this weekend, ideally with less sweat. Next weekend will be less packed, probably for the best. Which means I’m giving myself some homework for some good home-cooked meals to get back on the saddle.

Eat good this week 🤘
